Registered Midwife (RM)

 

A nurse who is registered as a general nurse (RGN) with An Bord Altranais may apply for the post-registration programme in midwifery. 

 

The full-time eighteen-month programme commenced in Autumn 2007 and it is proposed to run it on a back-to-back basis.

 

159 places were available in Autumn 2007 as outlined below.

 

The seven Maternity Hospitals and linked HEIs currently offering the Midwifery course are set out below and the dates in brackets refer to An Bord Altranais approval dates for the programme: 

  • Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and DKIT (July 2007 to July 2012) 15 places
  • University College Hospital Galway and NUIG (July 2007 to July 2012) 17 places
  • Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital and TCD (July 2007 to July 2012) 25 places
  • Rotunda Hospital and TCD (July 2007 to July 2012) 25 places
  • Cork University Maternity Hospital and UCC (July 07 to July 12) 32 places
  • National Maternity Hospital and UCD (July 2007 to July 2012) 25 places
  • St Munchin’s Regional Maternity Hospital and UL (July 2007 to July 2012) 20 places

Successful completion of the course entitles the student to apply for registration with An Bord Altranais (RM) and the award of a Higher Diploma from the HEI.
